Explorer: Time Filters & Shift

How to filter your Explorer report to see and compare data at specific points of time.

Explorer Filters

With Explorer you can find the data you want from the past second to the past year and more. You have three fields to help sort your report: Filter, Split and Measure. Here we will focus on Time Filters. Here is a guide on how to setup filters to see the data you need.

Time Filters

The first filter you should set up for your report is the time period on when you want to view your data.

Relative vs Fixed

Relative

Relative will show you your data relative to the day that you are viewing this report.

For Example: If you look at the report on Monday, it will show Monday's data. When you load up the report on Tuesday, it will then show data relative to Tuesday.

Fixed

Fixed will keep the data in a fixed time period that you choose. You can select the exact Start and End dates including the time down to the minute.

For Example: When you set the Fixed time to Monday, if you load the explorer report on Tuesday, you will still only see Monday's data.

Latest

Choose the latest time when you see your data. The "latest day" in the datetime filter refers to the most recent day with available data. For example, if you choose the "latest day option on the 20th but the filter loads data from the 15th, then the "latest day with data" is the 15th. When you select a period you will see the timestamp below.

Latest

1H

30D

Custom Latest Time Periods With "..."

You can set up a custom latest period by clicking the 3 dots and inputting one of the commands below to get even more granular data. Below the P stands for partition which means to divide or split the data by.

πŸ’‘ More Customization

These are just the base examples, you can customize these for example to be PT2H to partition the data by 2 hours or P3D to partition the data by 3 days.

Current & Previous

To select a more general time period you can use Current & Previous time filters. So if you select Current D (Day) and it is Monday at 8am it will only show Monday 12am-8am and not the last 24 hours. If it is Monday 8am and you select Previous D (Day) it will show you all the data on the previous day (e.g. all 24 hours on Sunday).

Q

  • Q2 is April through June

  • Q4 is October through December

Time Shift

If you want to compare data between time periods you can turn on Time Shift. New columns Previous & Difference will appear in your report and show you the value & percentage change.

You can also input custom commands like P2W (Partition data by 2 weeks) or PT5M (Partition data by 5 minutes) however the shifted period cannot overlap with the main period (don't worry it will tell you if you can or cannot use that time shift combination).

✏️ Time Shift Example

You can setup is to select the Latest 1D (last 24hours). Then select Time Shift D (Day). Then add the Time dimension to the Split and you will have the last 24 hours vs the previous 24 hours.

Once you add it to the Split, click on Time to choose the granularity that is displayed on the report.

πŸ’‘ Time Granularity

As mentioned above, when using time filters it is best to add the Time dimension so you can view your data down to the minute if needed.
